Convert RAF to HEIC
RAF is Fujifilm’s RAW format, and on a 40-megapixel X-series or a GFX medium-format body the files get very large. Fuji shooters tend to shoot a lot, and it adds up fast. RawToHEIC converts your RAF files to HEIC inside Apple Photos, up to 10× smaller, keeping every edit, album, favorite, and location.
What is an RAF file?
A RAF file is a Fujifilm RAW photo — the camera’s unprocessed sensor data, written by Fuji X-series and GFX cameras. On a modern 40-megapixel X-Trans sensor a RAF is commonly 30 to 60 MB, and GFX medium-format files are larger still. RAW gives you full latitude while editing, but a finished photo no longer needs it; converting it to HEIC keeps the look and reclaims most of the space.
Convert RAF right inside Photos
No exporting to Files, no importing back, nothing uploaded. Select your RAF photos in Apple Photos, tap Share, and let RawToHEIC convert them on iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Everything about the photo is kept
- Edits, crops, and adjustments carry over exactly as they look in Photos.
- Album membership, favorites, captions, and keywords stay put.
- Location and full camera metadata (EXIF) travel with the HEIC.
- HDR is preserved with an ISO 21496-1 gain map.
- Your originals are never deleted until the HEIC is saved and verified.

RAF questions, answered
What is a RAF file?
A RAF is a Fujifilm RAW photo — unprocessed sensor data from an X-series or GFX camera, kept large to preserve full editing latitude.
How do I open a RAF file?
Apple Photos and Preview open RAF natively on a recent iPhone, iPad, or Mac, and RawToHEIC reads them straight from Photos.
Can I shrink my RAF files without losing edits?
Yes. RawToHEIC converts RAF to HEIC, about 10× smaller and visually identical, keeping your edits, album, favorite, location, and metadata.
Does converting a RAF reduce quality?
HEIC is lossy, so it trades a difference most people cannot see for a large drop in size. Keep originals for irreplaceable shots.
Will it delete my original RAF files?
Only if you choose to, per batch, and never until the HEIC is saved and verified. Deleted originals stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days.
