Convert ORF to HEIC

ORF is the RAW format Olympus and OM System cameras write. The Micro Four Thirds files are more modest than full-frame RAW, but high-res modes and a habit of shooting often still build a heavy library. RawToHEIC converts your ORF files to HEIC inside Apple Photos, keeping every edit, album, favorite, and location.

What is an ORF file?

An ORF file is an Olympus or OM System RAW photo — the unprocessed sensor data from a Micro Four Thirds camera. A single ORF is usually 15 to 25 MB, and high-resolution computational modes push that higher. RAW preserves the most editing latitude, but once a shot is finished it no longer needs that headroom, and converting it to HEIC keeps the photo looking the same while freeing most of the space.

Convert ORF right inside Photos

No exporting to Files, no importing back, nothing uploaded. Select your ORF photos in Apple Photos, tap Share, and let RawToHEIC convert them on iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Everything about the photo is kept

  • Edits, crops, and adjustments carry over exactly as they look in Photos.
  • Album membership, favorites, captions, and keywords stay put.
  • Location and full camera metadata (EXIF) travel with the HEIC.
  • HDR is preserved with an ISO 21496-1 gain map.
  • Your originals are never deleted until the HEIC is saved and verified.

Cameras that shoot ORF

ORF questions, answered

What is an ORF file?

An ORF is an Olympus / OM System RAW photo — unprocessed sensor data from a Micro Four Thirds camera, kept large to preserve editing latitude.

How do I open an ORF file?

Apple Photos and Preview open ORF natively on a recent iPhone, iPad, or Mac, and RawToHEIC reads them straight from Photos.

Can I shrink my ORF files without losing edits?

Yes. RawToHEIC converts ORF to HEIC and keeps your edits, album, favorite, location, and metadata, in a much smaller file.

Does converting an ORF reduce quality?

HEIC is lossy — a small visual trade for a large size reduction. Keep originals for irreplaceable shots.

Will it delete my original ORF files?

Only if you choose to, per batch, and never until the HEIC is saved and verified. Deleted originals stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days.
