What is a TIFF file?
A TIFF (.tif) is a high-quality image format used for film and document scans, archival masters, and professional output. It is frequently uncompressed, which preserves every detail but makes a single file run to tens or even hundreds of megabytes. For finished images you simply want to keep and view, that size is overkill; converting them to HEIC keeps the detail you can actually see while removing the overwhelming bulk.

Can I convert TIFF to a smaller format and keep the detail?

Does converting TIFF to HEIC lose quality?
HEIC is lossy, so for archival masters keep the TIFF. For finished images you mainly view, the difference is invisible and the space saved is large.

Yes. Capture date, any embedded metadata, album membership, and favorite are carried over to the HEIC.
Will it delete my original TIFF files?
Only if you choose to, per batch, and never until the HEIC is saved and verified. Deleted originals stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days.
