1. Choose HEIC for finished photos

Apple devices support HEIC natively across Photos, Messages, Mail, and iCloud Photos. That makes it a practical destination format when an image no longer needs the flexibility of RAW. In many cases, a HEIC can be dramatically smaller than its RAW source while still looking excellent on a phone, tablet, or Mac display.
There is a trade-off. HEIC is not a replacement for a RAW original you may want to re-edit extensively years from now. Think of it as a high-quality final version, not a digital negative.
